Both authors, Owen and Borden, are expressing the dire conditions of the war and exposing the reality of the life of a soldier. However, the authors express it differently. Owen is more direct in his approach of describing frantic fumbling of a soldier as he tries to save himself from a gas attack. Bordon is more discreet in his description. He allows the reader to go on a journey from the perspective of the sluggish and slimy mud that coats everything the soldiers carry.

The Lucasta, on Going to Wars and The Charge of the Light Brigade both seem to glorify the act of going off to war. They speak of the honor a man earns as a soldier. The Song of the Mud and Dulce et Decorum Est both highlight the realities of the life of a solider.
